Marumasa Trading's Thoughts
There is growing interest in building using wood for reasons such as decarbonization and resource circulation.
On the other hand, in Japan, large-scale afforestation and reforestation were carried out to meet the increased demand for timber during the postwar reconstruction period. After that, a large amount of cheap timber was imported from overseas, where the living conditions were different from those of Japan, and many of Japan's artificial forests were left to deteriorate.
Marumasa Shoji has been in the wood business for over 100 years since its founding in the Meiji era, and as a result has been committed to using local timber as part of its responsibility.
Domestic wood, which has been used in daily life and buildings since ancient times as a material that gives people a comfortable sensation, has high moisture-regulating and insulating properties, which not only improve the energy-saving performance of buildings but also have the effect of mitigating uncomfortable factors such as cold and heat. We also value the inherent strength, attractive appearance and scent of wood. Recently, research into these characteristics of wood has progressed, and its merits are being reevaluated.
Scientific verification is also progressing regarding the comfort of wood, such as its soft appearance and feel, fragrance, and moisture-regulating properties, and it is expected to be used in medical facilities, elderly care facilities, and other such facilities.
We are once again looking back at the origins of Japanese life, and we are making steady efforts every day to increase the number of people who can appreciate the "goodness of wood."
